Enter the stride of Cognitive Computing
Over 3 decades ago, when the disco balls just went out of style we invented the founding steps of Artificial Intelligence – Voice recognition modules, Natural Language Processing, Neural Networks, Machine Learning framework and even First Order Logical Reasoning. So where are we now? Why has the level of artificial intelligence that we see in sci-fi movies such as the Matrix, Terminator or more recently Lucy or even West World not yet been achieved?
Here is our hypothesis and hear us out; AI never stopped growing we just call it by a new name – Cognitive Computing. Simply put, sophisticated software algorithms or programs that learn to simulate the thought process of the human brain are what we refer to as cognitive computing. There is still 1 unresolved problem, I think we fail at programming: our own brain, mainly because we simply don’t know how it works. Even though Billion dollar research are being done on this exact field by several multinational corporates it is unlikely we witness any concrete breakthrough any time soon. Therefore I believe our approach should revolve around machine learning and smart integration of AI capabilities.
Just imagine the capabilities of efficient cognitive computing in areas where quick response action is the difference between life and death; such as in the case of Hospitals – where the machine integrated mainframe could direct cases to their respective wards without any confusion. The doctors would get automated pagers depending upon the urgency of their emergency. I could go on for days expressing how effective the health care of the future would be when such a system is established.
Another field would be cognitive computer controlled traffic where depending on the emergency or security protocol the traffic could be redirected or re-routed to the destination with the least hindrance to the public and bystanders. As a result, what I feel is AI should undergo a renaissance; we should start developing new “cognitive” capabilities to help us in our daily lives. The future does have to start somewhere.
